About Jim Donovan
Jim Donovan is an international performing and teaching artist who most recently has been named winner of the 2008 Best Drum Circle Facilitator award and runner up for 2008 Best Percussion Performance , Best Jamband Drummer and Best Pop-Rock Percussionist in Drum! magazine.
From 1990-2005 Donovan was a founding member and driving force of the multi-platinum band Rusted Root who have sold in excess of three million recordings worldwide. The popular jam-band has made countless trips around North America and abroad sharing the stage with rock & roll legends such as Santana, Page and Plant from Led Zeppelin, Sting, Dave Matthews Band, The Allman Brothers, Sheryl Crow, The Grateful Dead and many others.
As a solo artist, Donovan has released five highly acclaimed solo discs, four instructional drumming CD's and a new instructional African drumming DVD. His most recent releases include discs by his new band Drum the Ecstatic International , a meditation recording called The Yoga of Drum and Chant , and an instructional DVD called Rhythmic Foundation: Interactive African Drumming For Everyone . His CD Revelation #9 as well as the track "Love 1" were nominated for 2004 Best Electronic Recording and Best Electronic Song by the Just Plain Folks songwriting organization.
Fulfilling his desire to share the power of rhythm first hand, Donovan teaches a series of popular educational drumming workshop programs across the US and Europe at universities, corporations, festivals, schools, and specialty venues. Donovan serves as a full time instructor of music at Saint Francis University in Loretto, PA, as director of the Saint Francis University World Drumming Ensemble as well as director of the annual Rhythm Renewal Drumming Retreat in Central Pennsylvania.
